Can I upload a file to add new customers to the portal and if yes how?

You can upload in to the L&Z portal customer file. This would usually be used if a customer has several new customers that need to be uploaded in one go.

The below instructions will now explain how this is done and show you the layout of the file.

  • After you have logged into the L&Z portal select the ‘Direct Debits’ option from top menu.

  • Select ‘Customers’ and then click on ‘Upload Customers’.

  • From the ‘Upload Customers’ screen select the ‘Download File Format’ button.  This will download a file upload template to your machine. See below screen shot as example.

  • Below is the File Format Definition.  The numbers below are the minimum-maximum length of values within the file. For example, (6-10) means minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 characters.  The text file needs to be comma separated and contains no bank line.  All values must be wrapped in double quotes.

  • Open the file template to where you have saved the file.

Input the details of the customer(s) as per the file format definition mentioned above.

Once the customer(s) details have been added to the template then:

go to File > Save As > file save type as CSV

  • From the Upload Customers screen click on the ‘Choose File’ button.  Then browse for the CSV file you have created and you can either double click to select and or select the file and click Open. You should then see the filename appear as shown below.

  • Select the ‘Upload Customers’ button on right side of the screen.

You should then be able to see if the number of customers in your CSV file has been uploaded successfully.  See below showing example output.

Note:- When uploading the file, if you have any details that are not within the required file definition or if the Account Sort code or Account Number is not correct then the portal will flag this up.  Below is an example of when sort code and account numbers are incorrect.  In this example you can see that the bank account / sort code does not pass modulus check meaning they are invalid and may not be set up to allow direct debits.  You therefore would need to check the bank sort code and account numbers and re-enter the correct details on the CSV file and re upload the file again.
